Jasper Johns, Numbers, 1964, Sculp-metal on canvas, 110 x 85”, commissioned for the lobby of the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center. Johns had Merce Cunningham step in the upper right hand corner of the painting, so that “Merce would get his foot in the door” of the new theater. Now, affectionately named, The Foot in the Door: Young Friends of Merce Committee consists of a diverse group of young people who support the Merce Cunningham Dance Company.

Members of FID make donations at or above $175 annually and receive benefits such as:
• Invitations to showings and cocktail receptions
• at the Merce Cunningham Studio
• Preferred seating opportunities
• Updates on company news and touring events
• Opportunities to purchase advanced seating to Company
performances across the country and around the world

• for To Bob With Love Merce gala honoring
• Robert Rauschenberg. With Emcee’s Laurie Anderson
• and Lou Reed with DJ Matt Mohr
